Nearly a year ago, our family welcomed a precious little boy into our lives. At six years old, he was a delightful blessing, yet his journey was not without its challenges. Diagnosed with autism, he was nonverbal and faced significant developmental delays. What I had anticipated as a straightforward process to access support through the courts turned out to be an uphill battle. Despite not being in foster care and our income exceeding eligibility for state services, our son's needs remained unmet.

As an occupational therapy assistant, I had to take a leave of absence to navigate this complex world of parenting a child with disabilities. Learning about assessments, therapies, specialized medical care, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) became my daily pursuit. Amidst the chaos, a beacon of light emerged in the form of Mindy. Her compassion was a lifeline during those overwhelming days. "What can I do for you right now? What do you need?" Her words echoed with empathy, offering solace in a sea of uncertainty.

Mindy introduced me to a community of families facing similar challenges. Witnessing her dedication to each child, providing unwavering support while nurturing their individual strengths, was inspiring. It was in those moments that I realized the profound impact of a supportive network. When Mindy shared her dream, I knew it was the answer not just for me, but for countless others struggling to find their footing.

I've since connected with families navigating the complexities of raising children with special needs. The recurring themes of childcare struggles, accessing therapies, and forging connections underscored the need for a supportive community. While my son has made remarkable progress with the support we've found, our journey is far from over. Xander's Place emerged as a beacon of hope—a sanctuary where families can find community, support, and guidance.

My passion for ensuring every individual receives the support they deserve has only deepened. Empowering families with knowledge of available services, enabling them to make informed decisions for their children's well-being, is my mission. Imagine a world where every parent has access to resources, understanding, and the ability to make their child's dreams a reality. As my son's fiercest advocate, I recognize the importance of leaning on others for support in this journey.

Xander's Place embodies the essence of hope, love, and support—a haven where families can thrive, not just survive. Together, we can navigate the challenges, celebrate the victories, and build a brighter future for all.
